2007-08 Women's Basketball Players of the Week:

For the Week of February 25-March 02, 2008:

Women: Lacey Haughian; Black Hills State; Senior; Forward; Terry, MT

Haughian had 19 points, eight rebounds, four steals, two blocks and an assist in leading the Yellow Jackets to a 75-65 win over Mayville State in the DAC tournament championship game, earning BHSU a trip to the national tournament. In a 67-48 semifinal round victory over Jamestown, she had 20 points, eight rebounds, two steals, three blocks and two assists. In the two contests, Haughian was 13 of 28 from the field and 13 of 16 from the free throw line.

For the Week of February 18-24, 2008:

Women: Lacey Haughian; Black Hills State; Senior; Forward; Terry, MT

Haughian had 29 points, 15 rebounds, nine assists, two blocks and a steal in leading the Yellow Jackets to wins in the regular season finale and DAC tournament quarterfinal match-up. For the week, she was 13 of 19 from the field and 3 of 5 from the free throw line.

For the Week of February 11-17, 2008:

Women: Kendra Meyer; Minot State; Senior; Guard; Prior Lake, MN

Meyer scored 42 points, grabbed six rebounds handed out 11 assists and added six steals and a pair of blocks in helping the Beavers to a split of a pair of road contests against nationally ranked opponents.  For the week, she was 14 of 26 from the field, including 4 of 7 on 3-poitn attempts and hit 10 of 13 from the free throw line.  Meyer also surpassed the Minot State women's career scoring record of 1620 points as she has compiled 1623 points.

For the Week of February 04-10, 2008:

Women: Jessica Van Loy; Dakota State; Senior; Forward; Wabasso, MN

Van Loy recorded 43 points, 17 rebounds, ten assists, ten steals and two blocked shots as the Lady T’s split a pair of road contests.  For the week, she was 15 of 22 from the field, including 4 of 6 on 3-point attempts and hit 9 of 10 from the free throw line.

For the Week of January 28-February 03, 2008:

Women: Laura Big Crow; Mayville State; Senior; Center; Pine Ridge, SD

Big Crow recorded 36 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block in helping the Lady Comets to a pair of conference victories on the road.  For the week, she was 14 of 27 from the field and 8 of 13 from the free throw line.

For the Week of January 21-27, 2008:

Women: Laura Big Crow; Mayville State; Senior; Center; Pine Ridge, SD

Big Crow recorded 48 points, 25 rebounds, one block and two steals as the Comets split a pair of conference home games.  In the two contests, she was 22 of 30 from the field and 4 of 10 from the free throw line. 

For the Week of January 14-20, 2008:

Women: Melanie Vedvei; South Dakota Mines; Senior; Guard; Lake Preston, SD

Vedvei recorded 43 points, 14 rebounds, nine steals, 11 assists and one blocked shot as the Hardrockers swept a pair of conference road games.  In the two contests, she was 13 of 30 from the field, including 3 of 10 from the 3-point arc and hit on 14 of 19 from the free throw stripe.  During the week, Vedvei broke the school record for steals in a career with 416 and moved into second place on the schools’ all time scoring list with 1949 points.

For the Week of January 07-13, 2008:

Women: Melanie Vedvei; South Dakota Mines; Senior; Guard; Lake Preston, SD

Vedvei scored 62 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, handed out 14 assists and picked up 19 steals in leading the Hardrockers to a 3-0 record for the week.  In the three games, she was 19 of 48 from the field, including 6 of 16 from the 3-point arc and connected on 18 of 23 from the free throw line.

For the Week of December 31, 2007-January 06, 2008:

Women: Cassie Leraas; Mayville State; Senior; Guard; Hunter, ND

Leraas had 29 points, two rebounds and three assists in the Comets’ 90-83 setback to NCAA Division II Bemidji State, MN.  In the lone contest of the week, she was 11 of 20 from the field, including 7 of 14 from beyond the 3-point arc.

For the Week of December 24-30, 2007:

Women: Snjezana Dojcinovic; Black Hills State; Senior; Forward; Zagreb, Croatia

Dojcinovic recorded 34 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and six steals in leading the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 record at the Dakota Wesleyan Classic.  For the week, she was 14 of 22 from the field and 6 of 8 from the free throw line.

For the Week of December 17-23, 2007:

Women: Melanie Vedvei; South Dakota Mines; Senior; Guard; Lake Preston, SD

Vedvei scored 26 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, handed out seven assists and picked up seven steals in helping the Hardrockers to a pair of wins at the Hoop & Surf Tournament in Hawaii.  In the two contests, she was 11 of 22 from the field, including 1 of 5 from 3-point range and connected on 3 of 7 from the free throw stripe.

For the Week of December 10-16, 2007:

Women: Jamie Wheeler; Mayville State; Senior; Guard Grand Forks, ND

Wheeler scored 27 points to go along with five rebounds and a pair of assists in the Comets’ 91-83 victory over Presentation College. For the game, Wheeler was 9 for 10 from the floor including 3 of 4 from behind the arc and 6 for 7 from the free throw line, as the Comets won their fourth game in a row.

For the Week of December 03-09, 2007:

Women: Melanie Vedvei; South Dakota Mines; Senior: Guard; Lake Preston, SD

Vedvei had 54 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and seven steals as the Hardrockers split a pair of games.  For the week, she was 17 of 27 from the field and 20 of 28 from the free throw line.  Vedvei also moved into third place on the Hardrockers’ career scoring list with 1815 points, passing her older sister Stacie.
