Jamestown College a slight favorite in DAC women’s hoops poll

(Dickinson, ND) – Jamestown College edged defending champion Dickinson State and Black Hills State for the top spot in the Dakota Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll.

The Jimmies picked up four first place votes to grab the top ranking, while the Blue Hawks and Yellow Jackets split the remaining first place selections to finish in a tie for second place.

The Jimmies return five starters to their roster, led by leading scorers Katie O’Neill and Kellie Schuneman.   JC also brings back guard Guili Varriano and center Cori Doubek, who missed last season with injuries after all conference performances in 2007-08.

The Blue Hawks, under the guidance of first year coach Andre Goldberg, return DAC MVP and first team NAIA All American center Kia Herbel and second team All DAC guard Kelsey Boedeker to a team that reached the quarterfinals of the NAIA Division II National Tournament.

The Yellow Jackets, who also played in the national quarterfinals, return first team All DAC and Honorable Mention NAIA All American guard Katelynn Lamb, first team All DAC guard Brittany Fuhrman and DAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Janna Schriber.

Valley City State, with returning first team All DAC and Honorable Mention NAIA All American center Abby Rittenhouse, placed fourth in the poll with Minot State fifth, South Dakota Mines sixth, Dakota State seventh and Mayville State eighth.

The poll was conducted by the Dakota Athletic Conference.

Below are the results of the DAC Preseason Women’s Basketball Coaches' Poll with first place votes in parenthesis (coaches could not vote for their own team):
